Unbridled enthusiasm for new adventures has defined David’s life. A capitalist by nature, he is unashamed of setting ambitious goals—as long as they’re pursued on a level playing field with fairness at the core.
He respects all religions but follows Christian principles, largely because he was born into that tradition. At his core, he believes all people share an innate understanding of right and wrong—what he calls integrity.
Raised on a farm as the second of four siblings, he inherited what he calls “second-child syndrome”—a competitive spirit that shaped his drive. He learned early that one never “bucks” nature; she will mercilessly remind you of your limits.
During his university years, David fell in love, bought a Karoo farm, and, together with his wife, raised four children. Years later, after his mother’s passing, he found a diary entry that read:
“David is a man of entrepreneurial character and always puts his family first.”
David’s world revolves around two unshakable pillars: his family and his ultimate ruler, Mother Nature.
At twenty-one, he became a pilot—a skill that would serve him for over forty years, flying for family, farming, and financial survival.
Life tested David in unimaginable ways. He lost his son at age twelve, nearly lost his daughter soon after, and watched his marriage crumble under the weight of trauma. Out of this pain came resilience. Seeking meaning, David spent four years writing his book Xanadu, a deeply personal exploration of “how and why.”
